How to create a Battle Arena

You can’t just send your friend a game invite Super Smash Bros. Ultimate like you can in games on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Instead, you’ll have to use the Battle Arena system.

The Battle Arena is essentially a continuous lobby where your friends can watch matches and participate in their own, depending on the ruleset you specify when you create it. There are public battle arenas available, but for the purposes of this guide, we’ll describe how to create ones that only your friends can join.

Step 1: Choose Battle arena from the online menu and then select the option to create your own Battle Arena.

Step 2: From here you will see a menu with several different options. Change the visibility to Friends and, if you want to protect it with a password, you can press x button to turn on that function.

Step 3: Strike Following to name the Battle Arena, then wait for your friend to join.

For groups with more than two people, you can also change the order in which new players are added to battles. Typically, the bottom player will exit the “ring”, but you can change this to the tallest player if you wish.

How to join the Battle Arena

If none of your friends have created an arena yet, the next screen will greet you with an error message. If your friends have built an arena and are ready to host battles, then you will see their list on this page. Each arena listed will be ready to join, so choose your arena and start battling with your friends.

Play cooperatively

Although you can play with others online, you don’t have the option to choose your companions, so you won’t be able to choose your friends and work together with them. Instead of going to the Battle Arena, you have to go to Quick game and select Cage start.

How to chat with friends in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Unfortunately, you can’t voice chat with anyone who isn’t playing the game on Nintendo Switch. However, once you’ve built a Battle Arena and battled with friends, you can start using the voice chat feature of the Nintendo Switch Online app.

Note that the chat function does not start automatically; first you will need to make your Battle Arena. When you’re done with that, click the *Y *button, which will give you access to More Settings. After that, you can turn on voice chat, adjust the room music to what you’re in the mood for, enable Ghosts, or change stages.
