On its opening day, the restaurant welcomed visually impaired children from the NGO Mahesh Drishti’s Kalyan Sangh, who confidently ordered using Braille menus.
The NGO Young Indians Group of the Confederation of Indian Industry spearheaded the initiative. Their conversations with restaurateurs inspired this initiative. Bhavna Ganediwal, president of the Young Indians Group, said, “We have invited visually impaired children from Mahesh Drishti’s Kalyan Sangh to treat them at a restaurant here. In the restaurant, we provided them with menu cards in Braille. From today these Braille cards will be kept here in this restaurant for the blind.”
“We have specially ordered this Braille card from Chandigarh. We will send 10 such cards to other restaurants. All these restaurants agreed to have menu cards in Braille,” she added.
Simran Bhatia Sharma, owner of Gurkripa restaurant shared her positive experience, saying, “Young Indians group contacted us and asked us to make menu cards in Braille. We felt really good about this. Until now, we have not had such a facility. We never even thought about this. We will launch this initiative in all seven of our restaurants. Today, when we saw the children ordering by reading the menu card in Braille, we were very happy. Every restaurant owner should start this initiative.”
Raksha Jogi went to the restaurant and shared her experience. She expressed, “We ordered food here today by reading the menu card in Braille. We felt that we did not depend on anyone else. Earlier, when I went to a restaurant, my family members would read the menu card to me so that I could order. I ordered my own food today. Restaurants in every town and village should have menu cards like this in Braille.”
Anatibala Porwal, a class 12 student, echoed a similar sentiment, saying, “I have never been so proud of myself before. I never imagined this. Today I read the menu myself and ordered the food. All visually impaired people in the world should be given this opportunity.”
