Jason Segel on how he found out Freaks and Geeks will be cancelled. The teen comedy, created by Paul Feig and executive produced by Judd Apatow, focuses on a high school in suburban Detroit between 1980 and 1981. The show is remembered for its cast of future stars, including James Franco, Seth Rogen, Betsy Phillips, John Francis Daley, Martin Starr , Sam Levine, Linda Cardellini, Liz Caplan and Segel. The show is also remembered for its sudden cancellation, as viewers and professional critics felt the show had achieved critical acclaim despite only airing a limited number of episodes.

during an interview TV InsiderSiegel reviewed the Freaks and Geeks. Siegel spoke candidly about the moment he realized the show wouldn’t be able to get a full season. He explained that his realization had to do with observing the craft service desk.In the beginning, as Freaks and Geeks I just started eating it and it was delicious. But in the end, the options become very limited:

“We had a feeling we weren’t going to make it a full season because when you’re a kid, you’re in awe of the craft service station that’s filled with meats and cheeses and all these delicious things at the beginning, Then slowly we noticed there was just a box of mini corn on the cob and some creamer. We said, ‘Oh, this is no good. We’re not going to make it.’ [Laughs]”.

Why was Freaks and Geeks Canceled?

Although it quickly gained critical acclaim and is consistently ranked as one of the best skits of all time, Freaks and Geeks Production on the show has been hampered by inconsistent, changing schedules and conflicts between NBC, which originally aired the show, and its writers. As an example, executives had suggested doing some stunt work by bringing in Britney Spears in the role of a waitress, but the suggestion was resisted because it was seen as undermining the reality established in the series.

However, there are more fundamental differences, such as the comedy’s depiction of high school life. Executives wanted the story to be more triumphant, complaining that the show and its characters “didn’t”cool“Enough is enough. Apatow turned down an offer to rerun the comedy on MTV after NBC canceled it.
