Cairns native, John (he/him) is Meriam from Murray (Mer) Island in the Torres Strait and Wuthathi from the Cape York Peninsula. He worked in the public sector for nearly three decades in media positions for national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agencies, designing and putting into practice a wide range of communication and media strategies as well as organizing and managing key national Indigenous events.
Additionally, he served as the NSW Aboriginal Land Council’s director of media and marketing. At the National Museum of Australia, John serves as the Deputy Chair of the Indigenous Reference Group and Co-Chair of the National NAIDOC Committee. He previously held the positions of Deputy Chair and Member of the ACT Indigenous Elected Body at the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre.
He co-hosts NITV’s premier Indigenous news and current affairs program The Point at the moment, hosts the network’s yearly Sunrise Ceremony on January 26 and serves as a guest host for SBS’s INSIGHT program. He also serves as an ABC Radio Canberra presenter. John is a co-owner of the national Indigenous construction firm Rork Projects.
