How to use Lens to generate AI selfies
First of all, you will need to download Lensa app on your smartphone. It’s available for both Android and iOS, so whether you have a Google Pixel 7 or an iPhone 14, you can still get in on the action. Once you have the app, that’s when the real fun begins.
Step 1: Open the Lensa app on your phone.
Step 2: Tap Following button on the following pages to see how the Lens app works.
Step 3: Once you’ve gone through those pages, tap Get started.
Step 4: To use Lensa’s AI selfie generator, you should subscribe to its paid subscription. Fortunately, a free trial is available. Tap the switch next to it Not sure yet? Enable a free trial.
Step 5: Tap Yellow Try it for free and subscribe button.
Step 6: After completing your subscription/free trial, select yellow Try it now button.
Step 7: Choose Continue.
Step 8: Read Lensa’s photo instructions, check the box next to it I agree to the Terms of Use, Privacy Policyand then tap Choose 10-20 photos.
Step 9: Find and select 10-20 of your selfies.
Step 10: Wait for Lensa to import your photos.
Step 11: Choose your gender.
Step 12: Choose how many AI avatars you want to buy.
Step 13: After choosing how many avatars you want, tap Buy button at the bottom of the screen.
Step 14: Wait for the Lens app to transfer your photos.
Step 15: After uploading your photos, the Lens app takes time to generate your AI selfie images. The Lens app shows how much time is left in the middle of the screen. There you can either leave the app open or tap one of the two options at the bottom — Let me know when it’s done or Hide this screen.
Step 16: When your AI selfie avatars are done, open the Lensa app again and tap smiley icon in the upper left corner.
Step 17: Tap on your avatar pack.
Step 18: Have fun browsing through all the AI selfies that Lensa has generated for you! AI selfie pictures are organized by various categories, including Superheroes, Mystics, Sci-Fi and more.
Step 19: Tap Save all avatars in the top right corner to save all AI selfies to your phone. Alternatively, tap any photo and then Save to Photos button to save one AI selfie.
Lensa is not loading or the service is not available
Lensa is a really fun app when it works. But, like any app, it’s not perfect. Whether you’re using Lensa for the first time or creating your third AI selfie pack, you may encounter various errors and bugs.
One of the most common problems with Lensa is when her magical avatars won’t load. You upload your photos to Lens, wait to see the final result… and nothing happens. In this case, there are a few things you can try. Make sure your Lens app is updated to the latest version, try closing the app and opening it again, and make sure you have a good internet connection.
These tips also apply to people who see a “service unavailable” message in the Lensa app. Please update the app, close/reopen it and double check that your Wi-Fi or data connection is good.

Is Lensa free?
The initial download of the Lens app costs nothing. However, you will need to shell out some money to create your AI selfies.
How much are those selfies? On December 1, Lensa was selling 50 AI selfies for $4, 100 selfies for $6, and 200 selfies for $8. But since December 8, prices have increased. Now 50 selfies cost $8, 100 selfies cost $12, and 200 cost $16.
If you sign up for Lensa’s premium subscription, one of the perks is a 51% discount on the purchase of these AI selfies. There are a number of plans available for Lensa’s premium subscription, with the most common costing around $40 per year.

Is Lensa on Android?
Even in 2022, there are still cases where some apps are available for iPhone but not on Android devices. This was a bigger problem a few years ago, but it still exists today.
What about Lens? There is good news no matter what smartphone you use. That’s because the Lensa app is available for the iPhone and Android phones. As long as you have an Android phone running Android 8.0 or higher, you can download Lensa and use it without any problems.

Is Lensa stealing art?
AI selfies from Lensa are undeniably cool — but they also raised an interesting question about the app and AI art in general. Specifically, does the Lensa app use artificial intelligence to steal art from real, human artists?
Artist Jenny Yokobori put together an extensive series of Tweets explaining why Lensa is harmful in this regard, saying: “This AI steals examples of art that were born from years of practice and expensive courses.” She goes on to say, “These AIs are not harmless. They are predatory and their art will always be inferior to something drawn by someone dedicated to perfecting their craft.”
Some artists, like Meg Rae on Twitter, also highlighted the fact that Lensa uses stable diffusion to generate its AI images. Stable Diffusion is the AI model that drives image generation. But as Meg Rae suggests, Stable Diffusion is “a loophole to squeeze artists out of the process of using images that any for-profit corporation would have to pay licensing fees for.”
So what does this all mean really mean? The Lens application and Stable Diffusion technology do not violate any laws. But there’s obviously an ethical gray area here that you’ll have to decide whether or not that’s okay with you. The Lens app is easy to use and generates hundreds of images for a fraction of the cost of what a fine artist can offer. But is that convenience worth paying for an AI setup instead of a real, authentic artist? This is where things can get messy.

Is Lensa safe?
Lensa is not the first smartphone app to offer AI photo editing tools. Whenever an app like this comes out, one of the main questions people ask is, “Is this app safe to use?”
The Lens app was developed by Prisma AI, located in Sunnyvale, California. Prisma AI was founded in 2016, and its main application Prisma was awarded by Apple and Google in the App Store and Play Store as “App of the Year”.
It’s safe to assume that every app you download is collecting data some kind. And while Prisma has been transparent about how it deletes user photos and doesn’t save them, some people may still not like using the app. And that’s perfectly fine!

Other trending AI apps
Although Lensa is the most popular AI selfie portrait app, it’s not the only one. A quick look at the App Store shows a few other options you should consider.
If for some reason you don’t like Lensa, check out the app AI Art by AIBY. Available for iPhone and Android devices, AI Art works very similarly to Lensa. Find your photo, upload it and AI Art creates avatars just for you. AI Art goes a step further, allowing you to create AI photos just by typing a query.
Another popular AI application is Wonder. Like AI Art, Wonder has two features: it generates AI selfie portraits from uploaded photos and creates AI images using text.
