WORRIED parents are anxiously waiting to see if their children’s school will be forced to close due to specific warnings.

This week it was revealed that 150 schools could be forced to close after being told to close buildings and classrooms that are at risk of collapse.

Families were expected to be told whether their children would be affected in the hours that followed.

Here’s how to find out if your loved ones have been affected – and a list of schools said to have been forced to close until today.

If you have not yet found out whether your child is affected or not, contact the school or local council.

The government refuses to publish the names of potentially collapsing schools.

Ministers were invited yesterday to publish the entire list immediately.

But parents and schools have spoken out, with most families expected to have heard from their children’s schools about whether they will be affected by now.

Photos taken across the country yesterday show staff in action after receiving the news.

Teachers and staff at Willowbrook Mead Primary Academy in Leicestershire were seen moving furniture out of the school and out the door.

Desks, chairs and tables could be seen being carried outside the school on a wet morning.

Work has already started on Abbey Lane Primary School in Sheffield after it was previously found to be built with problematic materials.

In the pictures, you can see a tarp covering one of his buildings, and machines are working nearby.

Schools across the country are closed and partially closed, with many taping only small rooms using suspect concrete.

It comes after officials discovered the schools were made of suspect concrete – just days before the start of the new school term.

Unions are now warning that this could only be the “tip of the iceberg”.

They said hundreds more schools built with “crumbly” reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) were expected to be told they had to close classrooms and buildings.

It comes as…

Simon Allford, chairman of the Royal Institute of British Architects, said it was “a big concern that 700,000 students are being taught in buildings that require major renovation or refurbishment”.

RAAC is a lightweight type of concrete and is commonly used for the construction of roofs, floors, cladding and walls.

It has been used in the UK since the mid-1950s, but fell out of favor in the 80s, according to the Local Government Association.

Many schools and officers are believed to have been built with RAAC concrete.

The material has also been found in other types of buildings, not all of which are in the public sector.

In some cases, inspections revealed that some RAAC planks had defects that, combined with bad weather conditions, caused creep.

The condition of some planks then deteriorated causing them to collapse.
