Lucy is only the fourth murderer in British criminal history to receive a life sentence, but unlike killers such as Myra Hindley and Rose West, there is little evidence to suggest that Letby had a difficult upbringing.

They were not present at the announcement of the verdicts last Friday, and they were also absent this morning when she received a life sentence during her sentence. Mr and Mrs Letby left their home in Hereford and moved to Manchester to hear all the evidence against their daughter.

33-year-old Lucy Letby is well known for being a serial killer nurse who received an extremely unusual life sentence for the “sadistic” murder of seven children. The parents of Letby’s baby victims revealed the gruesome aftermath of her murders while she was locked up in court cells, making her Britain’s deadliest child serial killer. Manchester Crown Court was told several of her surviving victims were left with life-changing disabilities.

The judge, James Justice Goss KC, described Letby’s actions as a “cruel, calculated and cynical campaign of child murder involving the smallest and most vulnerable children”.

There is nothing to show that Mr and Mrs Letby were anything but loving parents who showered Lucy with tenderness from the moment of her birth, which happened five months after their wedding in July 1989. They raised Lucy as an only child in the mid-1930s . detached house in a cul-de-sac.

While growing up, Letby was a ‘delight’ to her parents – neighbors recall. Lucy Letby’s childhood was ordinary like any other child raised by loving parents. She had a part-time job at WH Smith in the city, and her parents were immensely proud when she became the first in their family to go to university.

Lucy told a doctor friend who was considering moving to New Zealand that she could never do it because it would ‘completely destroy them’. “It’s hard enough to be away from me now, and it’s only 100 miles,” she said.

She wrote this in a message to another acquaintance: “My parents worry a lot about everything and anything, they hate that I live alone, etc. I feel bad because I know it’s very difficult for them, especially since I’m an only child, and they mean well, it just sometimes suffocates me a little and I feel guilty all the time.”

Lucy received 14 life sentences, one for each of the seven murder and attempted murder charges against her. He will die in prison.
