Luka Doncic has done what neither Michael Jordan nor LeBron James could achieve. The 22-year-old Slovenian just made history after his 2018-19 National Treasure rookie card was sold for a whopping $4.6 million. What I wouldn’t count on is having $5 million spare to buy trading cards with…
In news that had me rummaging through my closet for my old trading cards, the sale of Doncic’s rookie card is the biggest in basketball trading card history. It easily surpasses the $1.8 million received for Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James rookie cards sold at auction last year.
The card in question is a 2018-19 National Treasure uniquely signed by Luka Doncic Rc Auto Logoman. While it certainly doesn’t look spectacular, the 2018/19 National Treasure series is considered to be the High-end trading card set among collectors. The fact that this is the first Doncic card ever issued, and with it comes his signature, and this is one of them, making this laminated card one of the rarest in existence.
While paying this kind of money for a basketball card may seem unreasonable, considering Doncic’s age and the talent he possesses, it’s very possible that this card could increase in value very quickly, making it the a worthy investment.
