A documentary about the life and times of Kanye West has been sold to Netflix for $30 million. The docu-series will feature never-before-seen footage of West and cover all the highlights of his career, from his music and fashion projects to his failed presidential bid. in 2020 and the tragic death of his mother, Donda West.
The streaming giant’s latest series stars Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, better known as Coodie & Chike. The duo has many years of experience behind the camera, having filmed videos for West’s Jesus walks (third edition) and Through the wireas well as directing the 2012 ESPN movie 30 for 30, Benjiand Netflix’s 2019 documentary about Stephon Marbury, A kid from Coney Island.
The as-yet-untitled film is due out later this year and will be the first time fans get a detailed look at West’s life (appears on by Kardashian not counted). Although West is not directly involved in the project, Coodie and the rapper have been friends for years, so it is assumed that the documentary series has his blessing.
This isn’t the only documentary about West in the works, with his former bodyguard Steve Stanulis currently in talks to get a documentary about the tumultuous relationship between the two.
