Writer/director Sam Raimi’s original 1981 horror classic, Cruel deathwill return to cinemas nationwide to celebrate its 40th anniversary, just in time for Halloween.
In addition to the film that spawned the film, television and video game franchise, attendees will enjoy an exclusive introduction from Bruce Campbell, who plays the series’ iconic protagonist movie is Ashley “Ash” Williams.
“We are excited to give horror fans the opportunity to gather and celebrate the 40th anniversary of Sam Raimi’s cult classic. Cruel death,” said Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt.
“Let’s kick off the Halloween season with the movie that kicks off a great series.”
“We are proud to present this special 40th anniversary screening of the film. The devil dies with Fathom Events,” said Bob Murawski, co-founder of Grindhouse Releasing.
“The original movie has always been my favorite. This is truly one of the scariest and wildest horror movies of all time. I’m so excited that a new generation of fans will have the opportunity to experience the film the way I did the first time – on the big screen with a screaming audience!”
Cruel death 40th Anniversary will hit theaters nationwide at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 7 (local time).

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will also release a collector’s box set containing Cruel death, Evil Dead IIand all three seasons of Ash vs Evil Dead in the fall.
