Project Runway season 20 was different. Instead of the usual order of inviting brand new aspiring designers, the show bought past contestants from the last 19 seasons. That meant tougher challenges, more drama and, of course, more prize money, ie $250,000.

Our star, Nora Caliguri Pagel, was invited to the show thanks to her participation in the first season of Project Runway. “I had just graduated from Pratt at 21 and thought it would be fun to try out instead of getting a job,” Nora explained of why she first joined the show

Unfortunately, Nora was eliminated halfway through the first season, coming in eighth place after her wedding dress design failed to impress the judges. That season, Jay McCarroll was crowned the top designer.

Over the years, the designer then stopped watching reality series. Not because she didn’t like it anymore, but because she didn’t have cable or time.

Therefore, the invitation to the All-Stars season out of the blue was surreal for her. “This second chance means a lot to me because I can share a part of my 20s that my children and husband have never seen. It’s also great to be able to come back and let anyone who’s interested know what I’m up to,” she shared.

Now, more than 18 years older and wiser (since she first appeared on the show), Nora said her approach would be to “take it all in and make the most of the experience”. In the past, her attitude was that “I do my best and whatever happens, happens!”

But Nora’s co-star from season one, runner-up Kara Saun, who also joined the show, said: “Nora hasn’t changed in 18 years!”

A fashion designer, Nora still works for Authentic Lifestyle Products. However, instead of her previous job as design director, she now works as the company’s creative director.

During her 2 decades as a designer, Nora has always had a hard time managing her time. “I’m a creative director in a fashion company, I have small children and there’s always a lot going on. Her fashion icon is the late Virgil Abloh. “Every time I’d see one of his shows, or when he’d release a piece of furniture or collaborate with a brand, I’d think, this guy is just creative. I love the clever details he always had,” she explained

So far, Nora has collaborated with major companies such as Champion Athletics, Target, Kenneth Cole and Kendall + Kylie. But he has yet to work for his dream client, his daughter. “I’m excited when she grows up a little and I can dress her and design for her. (That is, of course, if you let me),” she said.

Regarding her education, Nora graduated from Pratt Institute with a BA in Fashion Design in 2004, a BA in Graphic Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2012, and a BA in Fine and Studio Arts from Paier College of Art Inc in 2000.
