Red Hood’s Feud with Batman Hits a Humiliating New Low in Meme Fan Art

The relationship between the Red Hood and Batman isn’t always the best, but it can be worse. Inspired by popular imagery, a piece of fan art shows Jason Todd having to rely on his own powers after being cut off from the Bat-Family.

The complications of Jason Todd and Bruce Wayne’s relationship started even before the former was murdered by the Joker. Jason is an angry young man, and Bruce helps him get off the streets and find a new sense of purpose as Batman’s newest Robin. However, Jason’s anger issues and Bruce’s high expectations lead to even more confusion in the Dark Knight and Wonder Boy partnership. Post-resurrection, Jason and Bruce still have a more tense relationship than most in the Bat-Family, which often leads to some difficulties between the two. Things have gotten to the point where even the Red Hood himself admits that he cannot be redeemed. A piece of fan art shows a potential spat between Batman and the Red Hood in a very humorous way.

Artist Karen of @maple_DC posted a piece of fan art on Twitter with the message “When Batman freezes all your bank accounts.” The photo shows Red Hood, fully costumed and with name tags added, checking out his former Outlaws teammate Artemis (who is now getting her own series) behind the counter of a supermarket. The Batman The looming specter of a cardboard cutout only serves to lead to the unfortunate drama Jason finds himself in. Karen points out that her piece is actually based on the viral image of a tall woman shopping in a Japanese store.

Karen’s art received many responses and thousands of likes, all enjoying the scene the meme inspired. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with people who work in grocery stores. In addition to riffing on the popular viral image, the humor also comes from Jason wearing a full Red Hood costume to work, not to mention the embarrassment of having to check on his ex-lover. While the setting is interesting, Karen’s writing tells the ups and downs of Batman and Red Hood’s rocky relationship. Will Bruce cut off Jason’s family funding? Assuming he even paid his Robbins money is debatable. Batman considers the way he treated Jason during his time as Robin to be one of his greatest failures. If Jason still harbors guilt, it may be difficult for him to sever ties with Jason. A better question would be “Will Jason accept financial assistance from Bruce?” Because Jason is a proud man, and not the type to ask for help.

There are a lot of questions one can ask about Karen’s work, but that’s only because Jason and Bruce have one of the most difficult histories in the Bat-Family. Fanart like this is great because it manages to create an extremely absurd scenario while inspiring thought about its subject. In canon, Red Hood probably won’t work at a grocery store, but discussing issues with Batman like Karen’s show does might not be the worst idea.
