Russell Ellis from Virginia has joined the cast Survive the raft. It’s a brand new series that premiered on July 30, 2023. Nine strangers from different backgrounds will join Acala II for 21 days in a two-hour episode. As three different teams, they will complete various tasks to increase the total prize pool.

Each week, nine players have the option to kick out a member of their own team, replace that person with another contestant, or keep them on the show. At the end of the season, the team with the lowest overall score will receive prize money, which will be divided equally among the team members.

Survive the raft is a new reality show that places nine Americans of different races, geographies, and religious and political beliefs on a 60-by-40-foot barge in the Pacific Ocean near the Pearl Islands of Panama. The goal is to see if the participants will behave cooperatively or competitively in the face of physical, mental and financial challenges. Newcomers join when some are eliminated.

Survive The Raft recreates anthropologist Santiago Genovés’ controversial 1973 study of whether internationally diverse people would work together to survive at sea. The show is hosted by former Green Beret and NFL pro Nate Boyer.

Russell, a father of five who grew up a mountain boy in North Carolina, now lives in Stafford. He sleeps with one eye open and is an excellent interrogator who understands how to play the game. During his service in the army, he learned various survival tactics in winter and hot terrains. Ellis is adept at hunting and fishing, being a Southerner, but his time in the military also taught him survival techniques to withstand extremely cold, hot, windy or wet terrain.

According to Russell, both of his parents were racist. Surprisingly, his mother remarried a black man. For Russell’s dad, his mother’s marriage was a shock. His paternal grandparents told his father, “Well, she left you because of the ‘N-word’.”

Then his father got custody of Russell and he didn’t see his mother until he was 10 after his mom went to court and won visitation rights. However, at the time he hated his mother partly because she had “abandoned” him and partly because he had been told that “God disapproves of interracial marriage”.

Russell’s mom had three children from her second marriage. He got to meet his siblings during the second visit, which he didn’t expect because he made some racist remarks during the first visit. Those visits changed him as he grew closer to his mom and dad.

And, he started arguing with his dad. At the age of 15, he confronted his father about the N-word and even got into a physical confrontation.
