Sam Mark on Netflix’s Ultimatum: Queer Love

For couples stuck in the golden mean, Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Queer Love gives you two options – either get married or leave! The first season of the series premiered on May 24, 2023 and saw five couples, all made up of women and non-binary people, as they search for an answer.

For these queer couples, tying the knot is an absolute deal breaker. While one is ready to walk down the aisle, the other is dragging his feet. So, to decide whether to get married or move on forever, the former gives the latter an eight-week ultimatum. However, during those eight weeks, each person will enter into a trial marriage with a new partner from one of the other couples. In the end, they are left with two future options.

Our star, Sam Mark, was the hopeful who gave his partner, Aussie Chau, an ultimatum of more than a year and a half. She wanted Aussie to be her forever partner, while Aussie would prefer to live together for a long time before committing to marriage.

Sam and Aussie were joined on this experimental dating show by their co-stars Lexi Goldberg and Rae Cheung-Sutton, Mildred Woody and Tiff Der, Yoly Rojas and Mal Wright, and Xander Boger and Vanessa Papa.

Are Sam Mark and Aussie Chau still together?

By the looks of it, no, Sam Mark and Aussie Chau don’t seem to be together. The two unfollowed each other on Instagram, and there are also no signs of them staying in touch in any other way.

Looking back, Sam and Aussie first met in an online LGBTQ+ social group during the pandemic of 2020. After corresponding for a while, the two decided to take things off the grid. “When we touched hands for the first time, it was like something you see in the movies. It’s like the universe brought us together,” Sam recalled of the time she met Aussie. Also, Aussie said, “Time stood still. Yeah, it was just magical. Like, butterflies and rainbows and unicorns… Well, real butterflies [were there].”

Unfortunately, it wasn’t always “butterflies and rainbows”. After 1 and a half years of dating, Sam was more than ready to take the next step – get engaged, get married and move on, while Aussie wanted to live together for at least five years before deciding if this relationship was really “meant to be” ” and if they were open to “going to that country of marriage”.

“I feel like she’s the real one. It’s just… like my processing takes longer than hers. Well, I hope so [this whole ‘Ultimatum’ experience] will speed it up,” the Aussie explained.

However, the show saw the Aussie grow quite close to Mildred Bustillo as Sam found a potential match in Tiff Der. So, of course, when it came time to make the “choice” for their three-week trial marriage, they both went with their new companions!

According to Tiff, Sam going on their dates without any judgment is what drew him to her. Likewise, Sam found a warmth in Tiff like she could talk about any subject under the sun without feeling like she was walking on eggshells.

In the end, Sam and Aussie concluded the areas they needed to improve in their relationship. While the former, thanks to her compassion, finally started to stand up for herself instead of being the initiator of other people’s behavior, her “former” partner realized that they needed to communicate better.
